How to push an author from novella to novel

That, for me, is the $64,000 question ((off topic but is that show still around?!)). How to push myself from novella to novel length books. My longest piece of writing has been 26,000 words. Now, in the grander scheme of things, that is just fine. But to achieve print publishing (Wild Rose produce print books over 55,000 - I'm almost 30,000 short!) I have to write considerably more than 26,000 words.

EEEKKK!

And that is where the panic sets in. I plot, I know where the story is going, and when I sit down to tap it out, I just cannot produce those magically 55,000 words. I have two WIPs going - which, in itself, breaks my rule of only working on one piece at a time- each have the potential of reaching that magical 55,000 + , still I don't think I can make it.

Do I have the plot and storyline to 'plump' it out? Yes. It is impatience on my part? Maybe. Am I just scared of spending that much time on a story? Probably.

But still I will sit here every day and pray to the muse that today I will make it past 55,000 words!

Works in Progress

Currently I am working on the second draft of Devil's Dance - I'm considering changing the title to Tempting Tessa, but we'll see. It's an erotic novella that I'm shopping around. Right now it's under consideration with Wild Rose.

My current projects include:

1) Bitter Sweet - a novella that involves a woman scorned, revenge, chocolate and a sexy marine.

2) Shadows - which is what I'm throwing myself into. However, the characters are taking me down a road I didn't want to go. If they want to go, they go. Four chapters in and there is no romance. A very strange attraction (especially considering my male hero is a convicted killer!), but no romance. It's very dark and gritty. Not like me at all!

July RWA Conference

I officially sent off my RWA conference forms earlier this week. I will be attending the whole conference, not as a signer - unfortunately, I'm not that famous! :) But I will be there. I feel it will be an invaluable experience for me as a fledgling author.

If anyone is going to be in the area, or at the conference and wants to say hi, please just let me know with an email. I may even have some goodies available :)
